Swedish automaker Koenigsegg recently unveiled the Dark Matter Raxial Flux 6-phase E-motor, which has left many in amazement. It’s a hybrid, which is powered by two combustion engines as well as a single, powerful electric motor, the “Dark Matter.”  This E-motor made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it was showcased in the production version of the Gemera hypercar.

This mind-blowing tech has left many in awe and with lots of questions. It produces 800 hp of power and 1250 Nm of torque while weighing just 40 kg, which is comparable to the weight of an electric motor commonly found in the everyday electric car. Crazy, right?

The Dark matter delivers power to all four wheels, along with electric torque on each axle. The ‘Raxial’ in the name refers to its mix between radial and axis. which appears to be encased in forged carbon fibre.

This Raxial flux motor was described by Koenigsegg as;

mostly axial, with a bit of radial flux—a radial effect on an axial flux layout.

Electric vehicle-producing companies like Tesla use carbon fiber to wrap the rotors in its highest-performing motors, this is done to keep the permanent magnets in place at high speeds, but Koenigsegg opted for a carbon-fiber rotor and stator structure.

This stator spots two separate three-phase AC windings, its job is to reduce current ripple and help deliver more torque than permanent-magnet electric machines of the same power could with just three.

The Auto company also designed a novel cooling method for its battery packs, it has proven to be more effective than pipes and cool plates bonded to the bottom of the battery cells. Here, the battery pack is flooded with a special dielectric oil which is mixed with various additives to provide direct cooling.

With the Dark matter motor, the new Koenigsegg Gemera is guaranteed to be faster and more versatile than its predecessors, offering all-wheel drive as well as an epic driving experience with superb capabilities. Production of the client-version Gamera is slated to begin at the end of 2024, with delivery slated for early 2025. With this revolutionary new motor, Koenigsegg is poised to rule the Auto industry.
