Popular British rock band, Coldplay has joined forces with Nigeria’s Afrobeat sensation, Femi Kuti and his band on a newly released song.
The song, ‘Arabesque’, which was put out on November 22 and comes as Coldplay’s comeback track after a 4-year hiatus, features Femi kuti and his band.
The song which also features Belgian rapper, Stromae and sampled the great Afrobeats legend, Fela Kuti, comes off their 8th studio album, ‘Everyday life’ – a double album, with the first half titled Sunrise and the other Sunset, which features vocal backings from Tiwa Savage on another song, ‘Èkó’.
They also released another song off the album, ‘Champion of the world’, which samples an Igbo gospel hymn intro from Harcourt Whyte’s song titled ‘Otuto Nke Chukwu N’Ojija Aha Ya’, which is a tribute to the lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, Scott Hutchinson, who took his life after struggling with depression.
These collaborations may be a pointing indication of a possible performance in Nigeria soon.
