Fashion constantly morphs and changes, while style is relative. But whether you’re a Boomer, Gen X’er, Millennial, or Zoomer, let’s face it; we all do it for the engagements.

In an exclusive interview with the Moda Culture, Jeho Created, real name Jehoada Adamu Christopher, a 22-year-old British-Nigerian Stylist and Content creator who isn’t afraid to bend the rules, and incorporate non-conforming elements into creating masterpieces unique to his own silhouette, gives tips to Gen Zs and Gender benders on how to get ratioed on social media.

Here are 5 Style tips to get Ratioed for Zoomers and Gender benders by Jeho Created

Take your mind out of the gutter. Wearing large and comfortable clothing is the only thing you should think about when you want to make a statement in any Outfit.

“Being in Nigeria, the weather alone won’t allow you to dress how you want to. So what I’m on now is mostly Streetwear, because it’s more comfortable and convenient. You’ll catch me wearing something light, like an oversized t-shirt, because the weather is mostly hot in Nigeria”.

Fashion can and should be comfortable. Jeho has made it super clear that style and comfort can and should go hand-in-hand just perfectly. In marrying form and function, you need not compromise on your comfort or the functionality of the outfit; No-no! And, that’s how Jeho’s streetwear sartorial choice came into being – Athleisure clothing, but with a stylish twist. Chic tracksuits, oversized jerseys, casual and graphic jackets, denim pants, short-sleeved polo shirts, sweatpants with utility pockets, slippers, loafers and all that rage behind sneakers, are just a few to name.

Raid Jeho’s wardrobe and you’ll find out that comfort and outré are two elements that majorly shape his style. Oversized shirts? Check. Oversized pants? Check. Oversized sweaters? Check. Chunky shoes? Check! It’s the street-style vibe and oversized clothes exude, that makes him such a Gen Z and Gender benders’ favourite.

BE MINIMAL

Honestly, be kind to Nature and Humans with your looks.

“I’ll never commit the crime of wearing Nike and Adidas in a look, or wearing skinny jeans or tight pants with Chunky shoes, like big Balenciagas’, or wear many colours in a look. I could use light colours or colours that actually mix well, but just wearing too many colours is a no for me”.

Taking out distracting elements in a look is definitely key, as nothing says luxuriously fashion-forward than minimalism and sustainability. Also, today’s generation understands the impacts of fashion on the environment, and hence finds and explores their creative spirits in the concept of using only the most important and sustainable. Although ethical and sustainable fashion isn’t a trend and the conversation around it has only gained more momentum now, but it could definitely still ratio you.

ACCESSORIZE

You can change an outfit’s look and function just by accessorizing. You really could be wearing an oversized jersey, gym shorts, sports bra or biker pants and seem like a work-out junkie, but the moment you put on a pair of hoop earrings, a Cuban, an XXL Denim jacket and knuckle rings, they understand that Miss thing isn’t going to exercise, but pick up little essentials from the grocery store. And that redefines use and functionality – which Gen Zs and Gender benders are all about; breaking stereotypes.

Little elements incorporated into certain looks can give a total revamp of the fit. Jeho always finds convenience in his cross bags that over time have become a significant element in his OOTDs. A short glance through this bag, you would realize that his little tolerance for individuals that mix different sports brands in a look, wouldn’t fit in. Personal opinions aside, micro bags have progressed to become a cult favourite. The accessory seems to be shrinking in proportion with each launch.

You could also turn to Y2K retro to draw accessorizing inspo, and switch up your wardrobe. Y2K trends think low-waisted jeans, bell-bottoms, baguettes, nano baguettes, cropped camisoles, ribbed shrugs, velour tracksuits, chunky shoes and more.

“As a Stylist, accessories are important, the first thing I really look out for are definitely your shoes. I feel like shoes can play a big part in your looks”.

BEND GENDER

“I’m a big fan of Jackets, Trench coats and overcoats, especially if it’s pink or light blue with butterflies on them or they have fire aesthetics”.

Jeho Created, Moda Culture, 2021

Trust me, it’s 2021 and if you really want to get ratioed, you have to be controversial. Also, the ideology that a certain type of colour, pattern, fabric, design, shade, or texture, belongs to a certain type of Gender is so archaic, and we left the flintstones to rest in their caves.

So, let’s let sleeping cavemen lie, and let boys wear Lyre; shall we? “

Gender-fluid clothing removes unnecessary sartorial restrictions which clearly is the ideology that Gen Z and gender benders believe in; diversity and inclusivity. Androgynous clothing has gained a whole lot of prominence in the recent few years along with a subcategory called Normcore (normal-looking clothing or unisex clothing), which essentially comprise wardrobe staples that aren’t exactly statement-making, but are fashionable and can be worn by any gender. Boyfriend jeans, dad-fit, mom jeans, unisex t-shirts are a handful of examples.

SELL THE GARMENT

It is very important to sell the garment. A fit might cost a hundred bucks, but when you wear it like it costs a million bucks, it automatically becomes a million bucks. Zoomers and Gender benders are all about bending rules and breaking stereotypes, so there are really no rules to fashion and style. It’s just how you wear it. At the end of the day, it is always pertinent to wear what makes you happy and comfortable, and wear it well so your confidence peaks.

Ugly fashion/style is really just subjective, and Jeho’s approach to getting dressed is more about personal comfort, confidence and knowing what works for him, than what others think.

“Make sure whatever you want to wear, you look confident in it. If you don’t look confident in what you’re wearing, it shows. You don’t look like you wear it well, and you don’t look good. So, your confidence has to be one of the best things to ever have when it comes to this fashion thing”.

Jeho, Moda Culture, 2021

If you like it, wear it. If you’re confident in it, wear it. At the end of the day, if someone says something, that’s their personal opinion. If you have confidence, and you know what suits you, wear it, then you’re good to go.

So mostly, Individualistic, minimal, classic, unabashed, streetwear, inclusive and comfortable, are the terms that define Jeho’s sartorial choices. Gen Z and Gender benders are likewise, just as fearless and accepting, and you should totally incorporate these into your Style today!
